“It’s nothing like you have ever seen the PAC do before” – Hamilton’s Performing Arts Centre is not only bringing a unique new experience to viewers, for free and from the comfort of your couch, but is providing our local creatives an opportunity to perform.

Over the past few months our local performers have experienced an unprecedented loss of work. It’s something that Ben Hunter, the PAC manager has paid attention to. “As the local arts community begins its journey to adapt and rebuild, now has never been a better time for innovation, with the centre developing a new initiative, ‘Get Me a Gig’, a variety livestream show to be enjoyed from home” commented Ben.

As the traditional gigging venues are either closed or limited in capacity, the idea behind ‘Get Me a Gig’ is to work with locals as well as the wider arts community to get them back in front of an audience, doing what they love, and being paid to do so.

“Each performer submitting a song, dance, performance of any description that gets featured will receive $100. The weekly winner who receives the most votes takes home $400. The gig that they will be getting is an invite to our grand finale where they will be competing for the grand prize of $2,000, all thanks to funding from Creative Victoria” Ben Hunter told us.

The ‘hybrid’ event also engages local videographers Alexander and Vincent Media to capture the action, local creative, Amanda Hurley to help with marketing, and local musician, Andrew Porter to create the catchy theme song!

“We have been watching with great interest all the Facebook livestream events from around our district and wanted to give an opportunity for these performers to be paid for the great work they are doing, while also delivering an experience with higher production value than what you might get from the average livestream” Ben Hunter continued.

Our community will have the opportunity to sit and enjoy some of our best local talents from the comfort of their own home, as the event will be broadcast live via Facebook each week. A small, COVID appropriate audience will also be given the opportunity to attend, which will add an air of excitement to the performance as we watch and cheer on virtually.

The Hamilton Performing Arts Centre is bubbling with energy as the staff prepare for the long-awaited return to hosting live events, and with such incredible talent on hand this is an event not to be missed. Be sure to tune into the PAC Facebook Page from 7pm each Friday from 17th July to 14th August, and be ready to ‘vote’ with your emoji reaction buttons.

Never has there been a better time than now to show your community spirit by supporting our local performers!
